Frequently Asked Questions -

When It comes to remodeling your home it is important that you have the right information in order for you and your family to make the very best decisions. In this section we have included some of the most common questions we encounter.

Q. How long will this remodeling project take
A. Quicker than you think. Frankly, it depends on the size of the project and the complexity. At R & R Development we make a sincere pledge to meet the deadlines agreed to. Yet, there are times when some unforeseen problems can surface that can delay a project. For example, upon opening walls we may find hidden damage that then requires some additional time to fix. Yet, when this occurs we will talk about it with you so that you fully understand how this incident can impact your project.

Q. Are you going to be on the job every day?
A. There will be times during the project when we will not be present because we may be waiting on supplies, inspections or other things. However, we will always let you know in advance when we will not be working on your home. Rest assured, even during those times we are constantly monitoring your project and making sure things are moving along.

Q. Do I pay for the project all up front?
A. No. There is usually a deposit made at the time the contract is signed and then progressive payments are made throughout the project. There are some additional fees such as permit fees that will need to be paid up front. Also, you will be buying your appliances and fixtures in advance. However, those expenses will be paid to third parties of your choosing.

Q. Can you use cabinets from home improvement stores?
A. Yes, but you may not be too happy with the outcome. After several decades of remodeling homes in the bay area, we have come to the conclusion that there is nothing better than customized cabinetry for value and functionality. Our cabinet maker has a long standing reputation building cabinets with reliability and durability. Lower quality cabinets may look good on the surface, but they do not last as long and may not look as good once installed.

Q. Why do contractors ask me about my budget?
A. This is to save you and us time. There is no sense in biding a job when the homeowner does not have a predefined amount they are willing to spend. Without a budget you would be allowing the contractor to make choices for you based on his own tastes and desires. This does not mean you have to have a open check book either. Rather, all you need is a general idea of what you feel comfortable spending for your remodel. Remember, if you don't feel comfortable discussing a budget with your contractor, this may be an indication you should find another contractor.

Q. What costs should I consider in my budget?
A. Begin by deciding what appliances and fixtures you want to install in your remodel. Next, take a look at what counters and flooring you are interested in. These two areas of any remodel will make up the biggest part of your costs. Keep in mind that the size and type of your choices can also add to the cost of the project. For example, certain appliances require bigger spaces because of their size and weight. This may mean additional architectural or engineering accommodations to be made on your project.

Q. What is the average cost of a kitchen remodel?
A. A. At R & R Development we specialize in high quality workmanship and we are not the low price leader. We are also not the most expensive either. The average costs for a kitchen remodel starts at a minimum of $15,000 and goes up depending on the style, complexity, and size of the project. This amount doesn't include the appliances and fixtures necessary for the project.

Q. What is the average cost of bathroom remodel?
A. The costs range from a minimum of $10,000 for a small bathroom and can up from there depending on the style and complexity of the project.

Q. How quickly can you start? Can you begin right away?
A. We are committed to making sure that once we begin your project we will meet the agreed upon deadlines. A lot depends on the demand we may have for our services at the time you contact us. Like any business, we have busy parts of the year where it may take a little longer for us to take on new projects. Our main concern is always delivering on what we promise to everyone, and we will do our best to meet your desires.

Q. Will there be additional cost beyond what was quoted?
A. Not unless you want to. R & R Development is very proud on how close we come to our original quotes. When there have been additional costs it is usually because a Client has decided that they want additional work completed. Nevertheless, the homeowner is always in charge when it comes to expenses , and has the last word before any additional charges are incurred.

Q. Do I have to be present while the work is being done?
A. No. We will make the necessary arrangements to safely and conveniently have access to the property. We will make sure to secure the home after we leave.

Q. What days and times does your team work?
A. We work Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm. We don't work on weekends or national holidays. When we leave your home each day we will make sure to leave a clean environment respecting your privacy and comfort.

Q. Who pays for the sub-contractors?
A. R and R Development will pay all sub contractors. Our quotes are all inclusive. There are no additional costs involved unless you specifically request additional work to be done.
